ANAHEIM, CALIF (January 8, 2019) – Anaheim Police homicide detectives have identified Miguel Reveles Villegas, a 35-year-old Placentia resident, as the suspect arrested for murder following a pursuit that terminated in San Diego Tuesday morning.
Around 6:30 p.m. on December 24, 2018, Anaheim Police responded to a call of a shooting in the 500 block of North Sabina Street. Upon arrival, officers located Fernando Guerrero Cervantes, a 45-year-old Anaheim resident, suffering from a gunshot wound. Cervantes was transported to a local hospital where he was listed in critical condition. On the morning of Monday, January 7, 2019, Cervantes succumbed to his injuries.
Homicide detectives launched an investigation and identified Villegas as the suspect. On the morning of January 8, 2019, investigators saw Villegas driving a vehicle in the area of Magnolia Street and Lincoln Avenue in Anaheim, and attempted to stop him. Villegas did not stop and a pursuit ensued. The California Highway Patrol assisted in the pursuit, which terminated on Interstate 5 south of Via de la Valle in San Diego around 8:45 a.m. After stopping his car, Villegas ran from officers and was taken into custody without incident nearby.
Villegas was later booked at the Anaheim Detention Facility for murder and felony evading. Villegas is being held in lieu of $1 million. Villegas’ booking photo is not being released at this time because the investigation is still active. Detectives are not releasing information regarding possible motives for the shooting.
