Tracking coronavirus: caring for our seniors

Coronavirus2

ANAHEIM, Calif. (March 16, 2020) — Anaheim is addressing California’s updated coronavirus recommendations announced Sunday, March 15, including recommendations for seniors 65 and older.

The guidelines suggest seniors stay in their homes through at least March 31.

We love our senior community here in Anaheim and want to make sure they receive the care and attention they deserve during this challenging time.

With their well being in mind, we made the difficult, yet proactive, decision to close our senior centers March 13.

In light of this, we’ve been working with community partners to continue serving our seniors in the following ways:

  • Meals On Wheels OC has made sure seniors receive their daily meals via home delivery
  • Beginning Thursday, March 19, Meals On Wheels OC will stand up a drive-through meal pick up option at Brookhurst Community Center (2271 Crescent Ave.) where seniors can get up to three meals each day
  • Anaheim Community Services employees are doing senior welfare checks over the phone
  • The Anaheim Community Foundation has set up an emergency assistance fund to help seniors in Anaheim, find it at Anaheimcf.org/seniors

If seniors in Anaheim have questions, or for those wanting to help our seniors, we encourage you to call us at (714) 765-4511.

The county of Orange’s 2-1-1 service also continues to be a great senior resource.

We know this is uncharted territory for all of us. Anaheim is a community filled with support for one another, and we’ll get through this together.
