ANAHEIM, Calif. (May 12, 2020) — Anaheim will honor graduates and all promoting students of the class of 2020 from May 13 through May 30 at facilities throughout the city.

Many graduation and promotion ceremonies and celebrations have been postponed, canceled or gone virtual due to the coronavirus crisis under the state’s stay-at-home order and limits on large gatherings.

To support students who have worked so hard to graduate and the families that have supported them, the City Council unanimously approved Tuesday a resolution to proclaim May 30 “Class of 2020 Day” and to launch a community campaign honoring graduates in Anaheim.

Messages of congratulations and school colors will be displayed at City Hall, The Anaheim Resort, Honda Center, Angel Stadium of Anaheim, ARTIC as well as Disneyland Hotel and several other Anaheim hotels. We’ll also post messages daily on the city’s Facebook and Instagram pages, featuring a cap and gown clad Andy Anaheim — Anaheim’s beloved mascot.

“My heart goes out to all the graduates impacted by the coronavirus crisis," Mayor Harry Sidhu said. "The class of 2020 holds a unique place in Anaheim history. These unprecedented times call for honoring their achievement in a special way. We thank all of our graduates, their families and teachers for doing their part in these unique and difficult times. We want you to know you’re not forgotten and our city is proud of you.”

Each Anaheim high school will be recognized using their logo and colors, with the following schedule:

May 13           Acaciawood Preparatory Academy

May 14           Anaheim High School

May 15           Canyon High School

May 16           Cornelia Connelly High School

May 17           Cypress High School

May 18           Esperanza High School

May 19           Fairmont Preparatory Academy

May 20           Gilbert High School

May 21           Katella High School

May 22           Kennedy High School

May 23           Loara High School

May 24           Magnolia High School

May 25           Oxford Academy

May 26           Polaris High School

May 27           Savanna High School

May 28           Servite High School

May 29           Western High School

May 30 will be a grand finale to honor all graduates and advancing students in our community, along with their families and teachers. The May 30 recognition will include those who are being promoted to sixth or eighth grade as well as college graduates from Anaheim.

The city also encourages Anaheim businesses and the entire community to show support for graduates on May 30.

Anaheim continues to monitor and address the ongoing situation surrounding coronavirus and provide support to residents and businesses.
