ANAHEIM FIRE & RESCUE RECEIVES $15,000 FOR YOUTH SAFETY INITIATIVE

ANAHEIM, CA (Sept. 1, 2015) – Children in Anaheim will be safer thanks to a $15,000 grant from CITA Insurance Services and Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company. Specifically, the grant will fund the purchase of helmets to distribute to youth in the community in conjunction with Anaheim Fire & Rescue’s helmet safety program which was launched in November 2013.

More than half of scooter, skateboard and bicycle-related fatalities involving children are caused by head injuries. These deaths can be significantly reduced by wearing the proper safety equipment.

The “Wear Your Helmet Like A Pro” initiative includes public service announcements and autographed posters featuring sports professionals from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and Anaheim Ducks, as well as Anaheim Firefighters properly wearing their helmets, inspiring Anaheim's youth to follow suit. Anaheim Fire & Rescue has partnered with the seven school districts in Anaheim to distribute customized safety helmets with their emblem to encourage students to wear their helmets, and has additional helmets available at each of the City’s 11 fire stations.

“This grant enhances a valuable program that helps save lives,” said Fire Chief Randy Bruegman. “We sincerely appreciate this grant from CITA and Fireman’s Fund, and the assistance from Disneyland Resort, Anaheim Ducks, and Angels Baseball, which support our efforts to enhance the safety of children in Anaheim.  We are also happy to announce that Angels Baseball’s 2nd Baseman, Johnny Giavotella, has joined our cause.”

Command officers and firefighters from Anaheim Fire & Rescue, along with representatives from CITA Insurance Services, Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company, Disneyland Resort, and The Walt Disney Company were on hand for a special grant presentation held this morning at Anaheim Fire Station No. 3.

“We are honored to support Anaheim Fire & Rescue in such a meaningful way,” said John Jasinski, executive vice president of CITA Insurance Services. “This is a valuable program that will keep our youth safe.”

Funded by Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company, this grant is part of a nationwide philanthropic program. Founded in 1863 with a social mission to support the fire service, Fireman’s Fund has awarded grants to fire service organizations for life-saving equipment, firefighter training and community education programs.  Since 2004, Fireman’s Fund has awarded grants to more than 2,100 different organizations totaling more than $32 million -- including more than $9.3 million in California. Independent insurance agencies and brokers that sell Fireman’s Fund products, like CITA Insurance Services, are able to direct these grants to support the fire service.

Through this program, Brown & Brown Insurance Services, with whom CITA Insurance Services is affiliated, has directed over $1 million in grants to fire departments nationwide.

CITA Insurance Services was supported in this nomination through their partnership with Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, who informed CITA about the fire department’s need in 2013 when the program was initially launched.
