ANAHEIM, Calif. (Oct. 19, 2015) — Former Anaheim City Council member and longtime Anaheim resident Frank Feldhaus passed away yesterday morning, the family announced. Feldhaus, who served in his elected position from 1992-1996 and again from 1998-2002, was 87.

“Frank was a dear friend,” Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait said. “On behalf of the entire city of Anaheim, my thoughts and prayers go to his wife Sally and the entire Feldhaus family. We thank him for his service to our country as a World War II and Korean War veteran, as well to this city as a longtime Council member. Frank was passionate about organizing events and bringing people together in order to form stronger community bonds. He worked tirelessly and intentionally to build a better Anaheim for generations to come. We will always be grateful. Frank will surely be missed. May he rest in peace.”

As a City Council member, Feldhaus twice served as mayor pro tem, initially in 1995 during his first term and again in 2002 during his second term.

On Aug. 19, 2014, the Anaheim City Council honored Feldhaus and his wife Sally for their significant community spirit and dedicated volunteer leadership to the community. The Council announced that the Center Street circle at the Center Street Promenade would forever be known as Feldhaus Circle. A bronze plaque was installed for anyone to read while enjoying the Nutcracker Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony, founded by the Feldhauses, or any other Downtown Anaheim event.

Feldhaus was instrumental in many of the community activities and opportunities Anaheim residents enjoy today. In 1996, Feldhaus and wife proudly formed the Anaheim Flag Day event and to honor the holiday established by Woodrow Wilson in 1916. The Anaheim tradition continues to this day. Honoring the American flag was a natural step in Feldhaus’ love of his country.

In addition, he was a founding member of the 13th MEU Adoption Committee, the Anaheim Fall Festival and Halloween Parade, and the Anaheim Downtown Association. Feldhaus was a member of the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis Club of Greater Anaheim, Boys & Girls Clubs of Anaheim, Assistance League of Anaheim and more. He also served as an Anaheim Planning Commissioner, was an ardent supporter of the arts community and was an Anaheim reserve police officer.

Feldhaus enlisted in the Navy in 1945. He spent the next two years patrolling in the Aleutian Islands. In 1951 he joined the Marine Corps. During his 10 years, one month and 29 days in the Marines, Frank served as a Marine Recruiter, on the Marine Boxing Team and the Marine Rifle and Pistol Team. He was as a Small Arms Instructor at both the Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia and at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.

Feldhaus was born in Cincinnati. He met Sally in Anaheim and together they raised their family. He is survived by Sally, their four children, 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
