ANAHEIM, Calif. (Nov. 2, 2015) - The latest in video technology - glasses-free 3D viewing - is featured at ARTIC this month for the debut of an educational film highlighting the ecofriendly elements utilized during and following construction of the award-winning transportation hub. The 20-minute video will loop during hours of operations (4:30 a.m. - midnight) in a specially designed mini-ARTIC theater on the first floor.

The movie, presented by the city of Anaheim, Avalanche 3D Entertainment and Inception Digital, provides an excellent opportunity for students of all ages to learn about ARTIC's LEED Platinum design, including water and power savings, recycling, and more. The month-long presentation will be showcased in Ultra-D, a cutting-edge technology that allows viewers to watch the film in 3D ... without glasses. It will mark one of the first public installations of an Ultra-D 4K screen anywhere in the United States.

ARTICs ecofriendly elements as featured in the movie include:

  • The photovoltaic solar power array in lot B, providing 18% of the energy consumed by ARTIC.
  • LED fixtures with daylight controls.
  • Electric vehicle charging stations in lots A and B.
  • The largest ethylene tetrafluoroethylene, or ETFE, application in the United States on ARTIC's roof. ETFE provides waterproofing, shading and insulation while still allowing sunlight to illuminate the interior.
  • During construction 90 percent of materials (15,000 tons) were recycled. That included wood, metal, concrete, cardboard and more. The recyclables were sorted at Republic Services' Anaheim facility.
  • Water savings are seen through the underground reclaimed water and installed pipes for irrigation, indoor non-potable uses, and through the radiant floor for temperature control.

Located in the heart of Orange County, ARTIC is the first LEED Platinum designed transit station in the world and is a significant vision of public transportation infrastructure.

Several museums throughout Southern California are focused on using the glasses-free 3D displays to enhance their current exhibits. By using this technology they are able to engage visitors and inspire them to greater learning.
