Anaheim Fire & Rescue Celebrates Fire Prevention Week with Free Smoke Detectors to Edison Elementary

ANAHEIM, CA – Personnel from Anaheim Fire & Rescue will visit students at Edison Elementary School during their Fire Prevention Week Assembly tomorrow, Wednesday, October 12, 2016. In addition to a Fire Company and fire prevention personnel, students will have the opportunity to interact with Smokey the Bear and Sparky the Dalmation.

Edison Elementary School is the home school for many of the students impacted by last year’s three-alarm fire that destroyed two apartment complexes in the 1500 block of East Benmore Ln. in Anaheim. More than 40 people were displaced by the fire, many of them children, and damage was estimated at more than $500,000.

Anaheim Fire & Rescue will send all 130 fourth-grade students home with a free smoke detector to celebrate Fire Prevention Week and to encourage families to install working smoke detectors. Families can also call to schedule a free home safety visit and have the detectors installed at no cost to them.
