ANAHEIM, Calif. (May 23, 2017) — Anaheim’s effort to provide residents with great places to play has earned the city a designation as a Playful City USA for 2017.
Anaheim is one of 258 cities across the country recognized by national nonprofit KaBOOM! with a Playful City USA award. Anaheim has received the honor four years in a row.
KaBOOM! honors cities that promote play as an important part of every resident’s life by creating safe and engaging play spaces in neighborhoods.
Community involvement plays a big part in Anaheim’s parks. Residents work with the city to design new parks or update existing ones by offering what they would like to see in their neighborhoods.
For each of Anaheim’s eight KaBOOM! playgrounds, we hosted a “design day” to get ideas from residents. The recently completed KaBOOM! playground at Imperial Park was based on kids’ drawings from a design day.
In April, Anaheim Community Services launched our Planning for Parks initiative, the most comprehensive look at our city parks in nearly 30 years.
We are reviewing each of our 57 parks from now through April 2018. We’re looking at how parks serve communities and what might be needed down the road.
Anaheim’s residents will play a leading role by offering their thoughts about our parks today and what’s important to them in the future.
Residents can share their thoughts through an online survey at Anaheim.net/ParksPlan. Community Services staff will also have the survey available at community events this spring and summer.
