ANAHEIM, Calif. (Sept. 22, 2017) — Kristine Ridge, Anaheim’s assistant city manager, has been named to lead stepped-up efforts to address homelessness along the Santa Ana River Trail and across Anaheim after the City Council voted on Sept. 13 to declare a public health and safety emergency.
Ridge was appointed by Interim City Manager Linda Andal and will serve as a single point of contact for emergency homeless efforts and report each month to the City Council. Ridge previously led Anaheim's efforts to address homelessness, including overseeing work with Long Beach-based nonprofit City Net and working with the county of Orange to open the Bridges at Kraemer Place shelter in Anaheim.
Ridge's new designation is part of the Council’s adoption of a comprehensive program called Operation Home Safe, which calls for Anaheim to work with the county of Orange and neighboring cities to find emergency transitional shelter spaces with a goal of clearing encampments along the Santa Ana River Trail.
On Thursday, Ridge held an internal meeting as a first step toward convening a larger emergency management group that is set to include representatives from the county of Orange, the city of Orange, City Net and others.
The emergency management group will work to identify locations for emergency transitional shelter space across the county as called for in the Council’s emergency resolution.
