| ANAHEIM, CA - (April 6, 2009) - Spring is in the air, and it’s time to spruce up our yards and plants. To help residents achieve rosier roses, heftier veggies and spectacular hedges, the City of Anaheim’s Department of Public Works, in partnership with Anaheim Disposal will host The Great Compost Giveaway, where Anaheim residents can receive up to 60 gallons of free nutrient-rich compost/soil conditioner. Rain or shine, the event will take place on Saturday, April 18 from 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., or while supply lasts, at the parking lot north of La Palma Park behind Glover Stadium (enter off of La Palma Parkway between Harbor Blvd. and Anaheim Blvd.).
The Great Compost Giveaway serves as a special thank you to residents for participating in the City’s yard waste program. The material that is placed in the brown yard waste containers by residents is used to make compost material and then ultimately returned to the community for re-use.
Residents will need to bring their own containers or buckets. Bags are not recommended due to the weight of the compost; however bags can line the containers or buckets. Adding to the convenience of free compost is the drive-through concept. Drivers will stay in their cars while Anaheim Disposal representatives fill the residents’ containers.
