ANAHEIM, CA - (April 26, 2010) - The City of Anaheim, in partnership with Brookfield Homes, will participate in a groundbreaking ceremony for Colony Park in the historic Anaheim Colony Historic District on Tuesday, April 27 at 2:30 p.m.  The new public park will be constructed to reflect the City’s historical roots for current and future generations of Anaheim residents.  The public is invited to join Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle and City Council at the ceremony. 

The design of the new Colony Park will feature a small citrus grove of Valencia Orange trees, covered picnic areas, a playground for children, and will become the 25th attraction along the “Art in Public Places” art walk. 
Colony Park’s “Art in Public Places” location will offer a historical perspective on the City, as well inspire a bright future.  Anaheim’s agricultural prosperity and historic irrigation inspired the art concept, which will make the entire landscape a work of art.  A watercourse running through the park will tell the story of the Anaheim Colony’s relationship with water.  The watercourse will begin at the “headwaters” representing the San Bernardino Mountains, move through a “river course” representing the Santa Ana River, then channel into a “water court” that delineates the irrigation canals of the Colony, and symbolically end at the irrigation of citrus trees.
Colony Park in the Anaheim Colony Historic District is one component of the two-square mile residential and community space development.  The parcel of land is being developed by the Anaheim Redevelopment Agency together with Brookfield Homes.  Joining Mayor Pringle at the groundbreaking will be Adrian Foley, President of Brookfield Homes Southland, and John O’Brien, Vice President of Brookfield Homes Southland.

The groundbreaking will take place near the intersection of Melrose and South Streets.  The park will open for visitors in December 2010.
