ANAHEIM, CA - (March 8, 2011) - The City of Anaheim is flying its American, California and City flags at half-staff through sundown on Wednesday, in memory of Army Sergeant and Anaheim resident Jason Weaver. Weaver, 22, was serving in Afghanistan when he died on March 3.
"On behalf of the City of Anaheim, our thoughts and prayers are with Jason's family and friends," said Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait. "His sacrifice is immeasurable. Anyone living in our great country enjoys freedom because of those sacrifices, and though we can never repay the debt, we can honor Jason by living lives of appreciation, respect and kindness." The City will install a military banner to honor Weaver and other Anaheim residents currently serving in the military at a public ceremony this spring. Details will be announced at a later time. Weaver was assigned to the 504th Military Police Battalion, 42nd Military Police Brigade, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash. During his service, Weaver earned 10 medals and other awards, including the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Drivers and Mechanics Badge.
