ANAHEIM, CA - (July 12, 2011) - September 11 has become a day to honor the innocent men and women who lost their lives on that tragic day in 2001. This year marks the tenth anniversary of the attacks on our country, and the City of Anaheim is honoring the fallen as well as those who serve our community and country through September 11: Service and Remembrance, a two-month time of reflection and action in honor of those who continue to fight for this country’s freedoms. September 11: Service and Remembrance begins today through Sept. 11.
September 11: Service and Remembrance will offer information via a special section on the City’s website, www.anaheim.net, as well as event and activity details, which includes information for a Military Banner ceremony on September 8, a volunteer day on Sept. 10, and a remembrance service to take place at Pearson Park Amphitheatre on Sept. 11. “There is no greater sacrifice than to give one's life for another. It is a sobering thought, yet men and women across our country willingly do this so we can continue to live in freedom,” said Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait. “On Sept. 11, 2001 thousands of innocent lives were lost, and thousands more lives shattered as a result. It is our hope that as a city we can offer our gratitude now through September 11 through our actions of remembrance and volunteerism.” Website Sept. 8 – Military Banner Ceremony Sept. 10 – A Day of Service and Pledge to Volunteer Also on Saturday, Sept. 10 a First Responder Expo featuring emergency operations volunteer groups will be held at the Anaheim Fire Department/Orange County Fire Authority North Net Training Center, 2400 E.
