|Anaheim's First Responder Expo will Teach Adults and Children Emergency Preparedness through Live Demonstrations and Interactive Activities|
ANAHEIM, CA - (September 1, 2011) - We all know it’s important to be prepared for the unexpected, such as developing a plan on how to contact family members if separated and putting together a supply kit in the event of an emergency. But did you know most people have smoke alarms and flashlights that do not work because of dead or missing batteries, have fire extinguishers they do not know how to use, or have never taken a first aid class and may not even know their own neighbors?
The City of Anaheim wants to change this by inviting residents to attend the First Responders Expo on Saturday, September 10 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. The First Responders Expo is free to and will be held at the North Net Training Center located at 2400 E. Orangewood Ave., across from Angel Stadium of Anaheim. Information is designed for both adults and children.
Interactive activities as well as live demonstrations by both police and fire personnel will be presented, including a search and rescue and an auto extrication. All activities will incorporate various volunteer groups and are designed to showcase their training and roles during emergencies.
The Expo will also feature police and fire department booths, static displays of emergency response vehicles and volunteer emergency operations personnel all providing information on how to expand personal and family emergency preparedness and how to assist neighbors before, during and after an emergency.
In addition to learning more about emergency preparedness, the Expo will provide residents with information about the many volunteer opportunities available within Anaheim. CERT volunteers (Community Emergency Response Team) can recertify that day through four training modules covering light search and rescue, fire suppression, triage and first aid.
The First Responder Expo is part of 9/11 Service and Remembrance Week, a week-long series of activities in Anaheim in recognition of the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11. Other events include a Military Banner Ceremony on Sept. 8, and a 9/11 Remembrance Memorial Service on Sept. 11. Anaheim residents are also encouraged to pledge volunteer service through an organization of their choosing. Complete information can be found at www.anaheim.net. All are welcome to attend.
