|Anaheim Rapid Connection Transportation System Receives Bids For Consultant Services|
ANAHEIM, CA - (June 28, 2012) - Transportation systems by which residents, commuters and visitors can get where they want to go in and around Anaheim’s major destinations without ever needing a car remains a priority for the City. One transportation project currently under review is the Anaheim Rapid Connection (ARC) fixed-guideway system.
The ARC system is planned to take travelers between The Anaheim Resort district to the Platinum Triangle, with stops planned near the Anaheim Convention Center, Disneyland Resort, and the future ARTIC site (Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center), among other destinations.
The City of Anaheim recently received three bids from consultants interested in providing services for a fixed-guideway project. The City, in cooperation with the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA), is currently preparing an Alternatives Analysis (AA) which is anticipated to be available for public review in fall of 2012. The City is studying different technologies as part of the AA including Bus Rapid Transit, an Elevated Fixed-Guideway Automated System such as rubber-tire, low-speed magnetic levitation (maglev) or monorail, and a recently added At-Grade Streetcar. Following completion of the Alternatives Analysis, the City Council will consider selection of a Locally Preferred Alternative to carry into the next phase of environmental, funding applications and preliminary engineering (referred to as “PE”) activities.
The selected consultant will work on ARC project development activities, including, but not limited to, preparing the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) environmental documentation for the Project after the preferred alternative is selected, preparing application materials for Federal Transit Administration (FTA) New Starts Funding that must be completed before requesting and obtaining FTA approval to enter into the Preliminary Engineering phase of the project (referred to as “Pre-PE activities”); and, at the City’s option, preparing and coordinating PE activities.
