|Public Input Requested For Anaheim Outdoors Connectivity Plan|
ANAHEIM, CA - (September 19, 2012) - The City of Anaheim is requesting public input for the Draft Anaheim Outdoors Connectivity Plan that identifies a citywide system of green corridors connecting residents, visitors and employees to both existing and planned high density urban areas.
The public is invited to give input on the Draft Anaheim Outdoors Connectivity Plan at an Open House scheduled for Saturday, September 22 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Pearson Park Amphitheatre Patio located at 401 Lemon Street, Anaheim, CA 92805. The City will also be taking input concerning the possible implementation of ‘Bicycle Boulevards’ on Lemon and Santa Ana Streets.
In addition, the Plan is now available for public input at http://www.anaheimoutdoors.net.
The Draft Anaheim Outdoors Connectivity Plan was comprised with input from the public, stakeholder groups, and more than 40 Southern California regulatory and property owning public agencies. This Plan identifies 18 Opportunity Sites and 130 acres that could be developed as future parks and open space. These projects include shade trees, pocket parks, a river walk on the Santa Ana River, demonstration gardens, wildlife corridors, bioswales, and other storm water filtration and collections systems. The Plan also includes a citywide California friendly plant palette.
The Plan identifies 200 miles of bike routes that, once implemented, could lead to the reduction of 120,000 Vehicle Miles Travelled and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 56 metric tons.
This Plan has been completed by the consulting firm MIG and is funded by two grants from the State of California’s Proposition 84 Urban Greening Planning Grant Program and the Southern California Association of Governments Compass Blueprint Demonstration Project.
