Anaheim Citizens Advisory Committee On Elections And Community Involvement To Meet On Thursday, April 18
Meeting to be held at Anaheim City Hall Council Chambers
ANAHEIM, CA - (April 16, 2013) - Anaheim’s Citizens Advisory Committee on Elections and Community Involvement (CAC) meeting on Thursday, April 18 will continue the discussion and development of recommendations to the City’s election system. The public is invited to attend the meeting to be held at the Anaheim City Hall Council Chambers (200 S. Anaheim Blvd., Anaheim, CA 92805) beginning at 6:30 p.m.

On April 11, the Committee began discussions on their recommendations on items 2-5 contained within Resolution 2013-038 - encouraging voter registration, identifying community groups and leaders to encourage resident participation in local government decision making, language assistance programs and other techniques and approaches to promote the participation of racial and ethnic minorities in the electoral process.

Steven Lynn, former chair for the Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission (IRC), will lead the members in discussing the recommendations and begin drafting a report to the City Council.

Lynn was the presiding officer for the IRC and conducted more than 100 meetings and hearings. In addition, he has worked with community processes, including as an administrator and consultant to more than 50 municipalities in Arizona, Nevada, California and Puerto Rico.

The 11-member CAC, formed on Aug. 10, 2012, will report its findings and recommendations directly to the City Council by May 31, 2013, including recommendations on: Potential changes in the City’s election systems; How to encourage voter registration; How to identify and engage community groups in elections and in local government decision making; Language assistance programs; and other techniques to promote full participation in the electoral process.

The April 18 meeting will be held at the Anaheim City Hall Council Chambers, 200 S. Anaheim Blvd., Anaheim, CA 92805, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The last scheduled meeting for the Citizens Advisory Committee is scheduled for May 9 at which time the final report will be approved by Committee members. The May 9 meeting will also take place at the Anaheim City Hall Council Chambers.
