|VALUE PARKS? THE CITY NEEDS YOUR INPUT TODAY|
ANAHEIM, CA - (September 11, 2013) - The City of Anaheim values its parks and outdoor recreational living space. Anaheim boasts 52 parks citywide, the Oak Canyon Nature Center, Anaheim Coves, bike paths, and more.
We are interested in adding 20 acres of park space and lighted sports fields off Ball Road/57 Freeway in an area currently called the Ball Road Basin. This land is adjacent to Anaheim Coves, and the City envisions a place for youth and adult sports, and walking paths as an extension of Anaheim Coves along the Santa Ana River. However, the City is at risk of not being given the opportunity to discuss the land purchase with its owner.
LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD.
The 20 acres of land is currently owned by the Orange County Water District (OCWD), and the City has expressed interest in purchasing the property for community use. In a surprise move, the OCWD has planned a special board meeting for tomorrow, Sept. 12 at 8:10 a.m. to “take immediate action” to begin discussions with a private power company to purchase the property, and to consequentially build a large power plant. The power plant would not be a provider of power to Anaheim Public Utilities customers.
Simply put, we feel the property is better suited as park and sports field space for our residents and neighbors.
The City of Anaheim would gladly work with the power company to identify an alternative site for a power plant. We believe the power plant is not compatible with the surrounding residential and community land use. If built, residents and homes would be within 1,000 feet of the power plant.
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
There are a few ways to express your opinion to the OCWD Board Members and show your support for a park and sports fields in Anaheim.
We appreciate your support.
