|Anaheim Honors Veterans At Community Celebration On Saturday, Nov. 9|
All are welcome to join in saluting our nation’s veterans
ANAHEIM, CA - (November 6, 2013) - The City of Anaheim will honor our nation’s brave military veterans on Saturday, Nov. 9 at a Veterans Day celebration in Downtown Anaheim. All are welcome to attend and show appreciation for all who have served in the military. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. at the Downtown Community Center Lawn (250 E. Center St.). Free public parking is available at Anaheim City Hall (200 S. Anaheim Blvd.).
“All the freedoms we enjoy are due to the brave men and women who served our great country, and I encourage all Anaheim residents to come out on Saturday to thank our veterans,” said Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait. “Our nation’s veterans are true heroes, and they deserve our respect. We appreciate our veterans, as well as those who are currently serving our nation, for the freedoms we enjoy each day.”
“Honoring our veterans is one of the greatest ways we can say thank you to those who sacrificed so much for all of us,” said Council Woman Lucille Kring, who is chairing this event. “This is a day when we can all come together for one purpose: to express our appreciation to our valiant veterans. We would not be enjoying life as we do if it were not for them. This ceremony takes place once a year, but our hearts are with our veterans every day.”
Marine veteran and KOCE-TV/PBS SoCal broadcaster Ed Arnold will serve as the ceremony emcee. This year’s keynote speaker will be Lt. Colonel John O’Neal, Commander of the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit based at Camp Pendleton. The ceremony will also include the presentation of colors by the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, comments from Marine veteran Miguel Vazquez, a cake-cutting ceremony in recognition of the Marine Corps 238th birthday, and performances by the Katella High School Marching Band and the Esperanza High School Jazz Ensemble and Choir.
The City of Anaheim is proud of its commitment to supporting its veterans as well as active military members.
