|Community Invited To Provide Input For Future Anaheim Rapid Connection Project|
ANAHEIM, CA - (December 12, 2013) - The Anaheim Rapid Connection is envisioned as streetcar transportation project providing commuter connection service at the Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center (ARTIC, to be completed late 2014) and along neighborhoods, businesses, entertainment and sports venues in the Platinum Triangle and The Anaheim Resort.
The City of Anaheim invites the public to participate in the Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) by attending one of two public meetings scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014. The DEIR will be prepared in accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and in cooperation with the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA). Public comments are welcome and encouraged.
The meeting will take place on Jan. 14, 2014 at the Anaheim Convention Center, 800 W. Katella Ave., Anaheim, CA 92802, in Arena Room 1 & 2. The first meeting will be from 3-5 p.m., and the second meeting from 6-8 p.m. Parking is free at Car Park 1; please enter off Katella Ave.
In addition, the City invites the community to review the Notice of Preparation (NOP) of the DEIR. The NOP includes information about the project and the environmental analysis to be included in the DEIR, and will be available at the meeting, or at the following locations: Anaheim City Hall Department of Public Works (200 S. Anaheim Blvd.); through the project website (www.AConnext.com); and at Anaheim Central Library (500 W. Broadway).
For those unable to attend the meetings, comments can be submitted in writing by fax (714) 765-5225 or by email to LJohnson@anaheim.net. Due to time limits mandated by state law, written comments need to be submitted to the City no later than Jan. 27, 2014 at 5 p.m.
The DEIR will be available for public review following its completion, in late 2014. The public will be noticed upon its availability.
The City of Anaheim is committed to developing transportation systems by which residents, commuters and visitors can get where they want to go in and around Anaheim’s major destinations without ever needing a car. Last year the City, in cooperation with OCTA, prepared an Alternatives Analysis evaluating different transit options (bus, streetcar, elevated fixed-guideway) for ARC. Following completion of the study, the City Council selected the streetcar as the locally preferred alternative for future environmental analysis.
