ANAHEIM, CA - (May 6, 2014) -

The City of Anaheim had joined the nationwide awareness campaign of Wildfire Awareness Week, and encourages all residents to continue enjoying nature while reducing risks associated with wildfires.

Anaheim is a Fire Adapted Community, meaning whereas the City enjoys natural landscape, there is also a risk for wildfires. Anaheim Fire & Rescue’s Ready, Set, Go! program helps residents understand fire risk and offers educational tools to take action prior to a fire.  Any wildfire poses a threat to residents, structures, parks, and utilities.

The Ready, Set, Go! program, available at www.anaheim.net/fire, offers tips and tools to prepare for a wildfire.  From guidance to retrofitting your home with ignition resistive features, to creating a defensible space, this online publication will help you prepare your home, yourself and your family. Residents are encouraged to share this information with family, friends and neighbors.

In addition, Anaheim Fire & Rescue recently invited a special guest to a City Council meeting to talk about wildfires preparedness.  Smokey Bear reminded everyone: “Only you can prevent wildfires.”  Please click here to view the video.

Wildfires can happen year-round in southern California. The most important step to protect life and property is for residents living in potentially affected areas to make time for advance planning and preparation.
