Gail E. Eastman Gail E. Eastman was elected by her Council colleagues to serve as Mayor Pro Tem from Dec. 18, 2012 to Dec. 17, 2013. She is an author and businesswoman elected to the Anaheim City Council in November 2010. Before serving on the Council, Eastman worked as a governmental relations consultant on land use entitlements and as a community relations specialist. She is an independent writer, researcher and coordinator on history book projects for a publishing company.

Eastman and her husband became involved in the creation of Anaheim's first recognized historic district after purchasing a 1924 catalog house in 1990. She has served on the Anaheim Fall Festival and Halloween Parade Board of Directors, Anaheim Historical Society executive board, Anaheim Transportation Network board of directors, Support Our Anaheim Resort advisory committee, Citron District Neighborhood Council, Downtown Anaheim Association, Downtown Design Review Committee, Mayors Downtown Design Charette, and is a founding member of the CBDG Central District Traffic Calming Committee as well as the Anaheim Historic Preservation Committee.

In 2001, Eastman was appointed to the City of Anaheim's Planning Commission and served two four-year terms, including three consecutive years as Chair. In 2008, she was selected as the 34th District "Woman of the Year" by Senator Lou Correa. She was also the recipient of the "Annie Accolade" award in 2008 by the Woman’s Division of the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce for outstanding community service and leadership.

While serving on Anaheim's Planning Commission, Eastman wrote "Anna's Home by the River," a children's book that tells the 150-year history of Anaheim. For four years, she helped raise funding for the Mayor's Gift of History event at the Anaheim Convention Center, where the book was presented to thousands of third grade students who attended. In 2011 she became the chair of the board of directors for the Orange County Children’s Education Foundation. The Foundation has taken the Gift of History concept to the next level by moving the event to Angel Stadium of Anaheim and featuring Orange County history. The first year a Guinness World Record was set with the history lesson for Orange County third graders being the largest ever held with more than 15,000 students. Students left the event with a history book written to make local history come alive as they study it, thus fulfilling her vision to support children’s education in Orange County history.

Since taking office in 2010 Council Member Eastman has served on several regional and local boards or commissions representing Anaheim as a director or alternate. She serves as the large city representative from the 4th District on the executive board of Association of California Cities-OC, Four Corners Transportation Coalition, O.C. Sanitation District, Santa Ana River Flood Protection Agency, Foothill Eastern Transportation Corridor Agency, and alternate on SCAG. In November 2012 she was elected to serve as a director on the board of the Orange County Transportation Authority.

Eastman currently lives with her husband Ron in an original California ranch house built in 1912 and relocated to the Colony Historic district in 2006. They enjoy spending time with their three sons and their families, including six grandchildren.
