ANAHEIM, CA - (August 30, 2010) -

The City of Anaheim in collaboration with Harris Tea Company, a division of Harris Freeman, will recognize the installation of the second largest commercial solar system in the City, as a symbol of the private/public partnership that provided the financial, technical and staff resources to make this project a reality. This 277 kW system is located at the company’s headquarters in Anaheim, California and will account for approximately 75% of the building’s energy use.  In addition, Harris Tea has added a smaller installation of 32 kW on a neighboring building, which will supply about 25% of the structure’s energy use.  Together, the two arrays will create enough solar energy to supply the equivalent of 50 homes.

Anaheim Public Utilities is providing an estimated $800,000 performance based incentive on actual production of the solar system, which is to be paid over the first five years of energy production. Over the past decade, Anaheim’s utility has also worked with SA Recycling to help the company shift electric use away from the higher cost time periods, saving them millions of dollars and helped build the necessary electric infrastructure to support its growing business needs.

A division of Harris Freeman & Co, the Harris Tea Company is a leading North American producer of private label black tea, green, herbal, specialty, instant teas and iced tea mix. They have an expansive reach with three production facilities located in Anaheim, Georgia, and New Jersey, and collectively are the largest private label tea packer in the United States. Harris Tea provides a comprehensive private label tea solution for the vast majority of retailers and wholesalers in the US. Harris Tea are considered expert packers of Black, Decaf, Herbal, Specialty Teas and Iced Tea Mixes, and are recognized within the industry as one of the most innovative tea packing companies in the world.

Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle will be joined by members of the Anaheim City Council and the executives of Harris Tea Company, as well as other community leaders and representatives at the 10 a.m. event.
