Step 1: Application & Meter Spot

  • Contact Customer Service by telephone to apply for upgraded electrical service and meter installation. If you prefer, you may also apply in-person at Anaheim West Tower or online.
  • An Anaheim electrical utility inspector will contact you within 2 business days to schedule a time to check your proposed meter location and to assess whether your pool is clear from any overhead utility lines.
Upon approval of your meter location, you will be given a meter spot report - please keep this with you to present to a building inspector at a later time.

Step 2: Electrical Permit

  • Once your meter location has been approved, you may apply for an electrical permit over the counter at the Building Division, located on the 1st Floor of City Hall at 200 S. Anaheim Blvd.
  • You may pay for your permit over the counter by check or debit/credit card; if you choose to pay by cash, you will be directed to the Treasurers Office at Anaheim West Tower.
  • After receiving your electrical permit, you may install your electrical panel.

Step 3: Inspection & Installation

  • After installing your electrical panel, please call the Building Inspection Line at 714-765-4626 to request an electrical service inspection from the Building Division - you'll be asked to provide your meter spot report during the time of your scheduled inspection.
  • Once you have passed this building inspection, please contact Anaheim Electrical Utility Inspection at 714-765-6847 to arrange for a final utility and meter shop inspection.
  • Upon passing the utility inspection, a service crew will be scheduled to energize your panel and install a new meter -- within 3-5 business days. If you prefer to schedule installation for a specific time/date, please call 714-765-6867.
  • If you have any questions about the status of your installation request, please contact customer service at 714-765-3300.

While these steps apply to the majority of our residential customers, there may be additional steps and fees in some circumstances, such as when your panel is over 200 amps or when city-owned facilities require relocation. If you believe any of these situations apply to you, please call Electrical Engineering at 714-765-5156 for additional information on how to proceed with your service request.
