[ARCHIVED] Country Music Star Chris Young to Donate Kidde Smoke Alarms Before Concert in Costa Mesa

WHAT: Grammy nominated, RCA Records Nashville singer/songwriter Chris Young will participate in a smoke alarm donation event on Thursday, August 13, before his concert at the Pacific Amphitheatre in Costa Mesa, Calif. Young will donate 250 Kidde Worry-Free smoke alarms with 10-year sealed batteries to the Anaheim Fire & Rescue.

Chris Young partnered with Kidde in Nov. 2014 to place a “Spotlight on Fire Safety,” and this year is donating Kidde smoke alarms to local fire service organizations at select stops on his 2015 World Tour. The campaign aims to raise awareness about how families can protect themselves from the hazards of fire, which then also reduces the risks to firefighters, and supports the Phoenix Society’s SOAR (Survivors Offering Assistance in Recovery) program for Firefighters. A nonprofit organization dedicated to helping burn survivors, Phoenix SOAR for Firefighters is the first national peer-to-peer recovery program supporting burned firefighters.

WHY: Approximately 3,000 people die in U.S. home fires each year. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) reports most fatal fires happen in homes with either no smoke alarm or no working alarm, mainly due to dead or missing batteries. Installing alarms containing long-life, sealed, non-replaceable batteries, like Kidde’s Worry-Free line, and knowing simple fire safety steps help protect families and firefighters. In 2012, the NFPA reported that 2,200 firefighters sustained in the line of duty burn injuries.
