[ARCHIVED] Exploration on Wheels library van rolling into service

ANAHEIM, Calif. (Sept. 13, 2021) — A new library van is bringing science and art to kids across Anaheim.

Anaheim Public Library's new Exploration on Wheels van is rolling into service, offering free hands-on science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math, or STEAM, activities to Anaheim neighborhoods.

The van is set to visit the city’s community and family resource centers, special events, and libraries with more than 25 rotating STEAM programs each month.

Programs are facilitated by staff from the Mobile Library, formerly the Bookmobile. Mobile Library team members will introduce fun science and art topics such as chemistry, coding, slime, painting, upcycling, and more.

This is all part of the extension of the library's mission to support lifelong learning and enhance access to free educational resources across Anaheim.

The van is equipped with an LCD monitor, a speaker system, WiFi, and plenty of storage to host engaging science and art programs, and supplies for the community.

Programs support a range of learners, including drop-in activities for elementary school-aged kids and workshops for preschoolers to teens.

Drop-in activities are 5 to 10 minutes long and include a brief introduction to the subject and activity like Action Painting, an abstract painting technique that introduces gravity, movement, and the Abstract Expressionism period.

Workshops are 50-minute activities that include in-depth instruction, facilitation, and education like 'Boom! Pop! Wow!' a workshop that introduces chemistry, what chemists do, and how invisible ink works.

Celebrate the vehicle’s launch at the dedication and ribbon cutting at Manzanita Park on Friday, Sept. 24 at 3 p.m. Meet us there to learn how to make slime, create a popsicle stick catapult, or a coding bracelet!
