ANAHEIM, Calif. (Jan. 18, 2023) — Mayor Ashleigh Aitken joined mayors from across the country this week in Washington as part of her continued efforts to expand federal funding for Anaheim.

Mayor Aitken is meeting with officials from federal departments and agencies, other mayors and visiting the White House later in the week.

Aitken, Anaheim’s first woman mayor in our city’s 165-year history, is also speaking at a Women Mayors Leadership Alliance session on Thursday.

“An incredible amount of funding from recently enacted legislation is just starting to make its way to cities,” Aitken said. “It is critical that Anaheim sees its fair share to address roads, homelessness, affordable housing and other priorities for our residents, neighborhoods and businesses. The connections we are forging with our federal partners and fellow mayors will serve Anaheim in the months and years ahead.”

Anaheim now receives more than $100 million in yearly federal funding for affordable housing, roads, public safety and community services and facilities.

Even more federal funding is coming available to cities through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, signed into law in November, the wide-ranging Inflation Reduction Act, signed into law in August, and other recent national initiatives.

The U.S. Conference of Mayors is nonpartisan group made up of cities from across the country with more than 30,000 residents.

Anaheim’s inclusion in the group affords our city a voice in national affairs and with other cities nationwide.

Mayor Aitken is Anaheim’s representative to the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

The group’s winter meeting is held each January with an annual meeting each June.

The Washington trip also includes a gathering of the California Big City Mayors, a coalition of mayors from our state’s largest cities, including Anaheim.
