ANAHEIM, Calif. (March 3, 2023) — Anaheim residents interested in rent assistance can apply to be on a Section 8 voucher waitlist from March 6 through April 14.
The waitlist puts people in line to apply for rent assistance vouchers, which can be used to pay apartment rents for those who qualify based on income.
Applying does not provide immediate access to rent-assistance vouchers but puts qualified applicants in line for vouchers as they come available.
Applicants will be placed on the list by random drawing with preference given to those who live or work in Anaheim as well as veterans.
Selected applicants for the list will be notified by email by May 11, 2023. We expect to add up to 10,000 applicants to the list with this opening.
A Section 8 voucher, funded by the federal Housing and Urban Development Department and administered locally the Anaheim Housing Authority, helps low-income renters and families afford safe, quality housing by covering part or most of their monthly rent.
The amount of rent covered by a voucher is based on someone’s household income with someone spending about 30 percent of their income on rent and the voucher covering the rest.
Applicants need a valid, working email address.
The Anaheim Housing Authority can answer questions and provide additional help by calling (714) 765-4654, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please call the phone number if you are disabled and require a reasonable accommodation.
