1. Who needs to apply for a short-term rental permit?

Any owner, or agent, renting a residential property for a period of 30 days or less is required to apply for a short-term rental permit. Failure to register will be the sole responsibility of the property owner.

2. Is there a minimum required stay?

Yes. Owners or agents operating a short-term rental must rent their properties for a minimum of 3 nights. This rule is in place to avoid frequent disturbances in residential neighborhoods caused by the repeated arrival and departure of short-term guests.

3. What is the permit process?

In order to obtain a short-term rental permit, you must apply to the City of Anaheim using the short-term rental permit application. The necessary application can also be picked up from the Planning Department at Anaheim City Hall. The application must be filled out and returned in-person between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, or mailed to the address listed on the application. 4. How long is my short-term rental permit valid?

Each short-term rental permit is valid for 1 year from the date of issue.

5. Is my short-term rental permit transferable?

No. Any change of ownership or address will require the submittal of a new application within 14 days.

6. Do I also need to obtain a business license?

Yes. You will be issued a City of Anaheim Business Tax Certificate (business license) once you have completed the permit process along with the regulatory permit for the short-term rental. The regulatory permit will include a unique permit number (REG#) that you must use as a part of the program which will allow the Code Enforcement staff to verify your compliance with the established guidelines.

7. What if i do not obtain a short-term rental permit?

Failure to meet the requirements of the short-term rental program may result in enforcement actions, which include a notice of violation and/or citations.
